The inspiration behind this painting were the soul piercing eyes of the red fox. The redish hue of their eyes is mersmerising and was a delight to paint.  
Living in Colorado, these foxes are one of the not-so-elusive spiecies that can be spotted on ski or hiking trips to the front range mountains. They are truely beautiful animals with their reddish coats often seen as a flash of color as they dart around the bushy hilsides.
